BHAMAW

Situated about 187 km south of Myitkyina is Bhamaw. With the Ayeyarwaddy river narrowing into its 14 mile long Second Defile near Bhamaw, unique opportunity to make boat ride excursions from Bhamaw into the second defile is given to the travelers by the Ayeyarwaddy river. Excursion by boat into the second defile is a leisurely and pleasant way to enjoy the most spectacular scenery of this defile with exotic high cliffs over the river and it is also an unforgettable experience.

KATHA

It is on the bank of the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River, 319km from Myitkyina. Compared with Myitkyina and bhamaw, Katha is more peaceful and pleasant due to its inaccessibility. Although a little known, being a place stationed by British officers, it becomes famous for its most interesting historical buildings like the police station, the huge walled jail, the old hospital, forest office, some residents of British officers. Among them, George Orwell is the most famous colonial police officer for his novel “Burmese Day “well known to the world. Orwell’s tannic compound and his residence still stand in the downtown. Most of the people will come and take a bath on the bank of the river on the sunset time. Bicycling and Strolling along the riverside road will be a fascinating way to cover it. Most of the cargo ships and river vassals will make a night stop at Kathar. It is one of the important ports for local trading on the river Ayeyarwaddy.

TAGAUNG

Tagaung lies 127 miles north of Mandalay on the left bank of the Ayeyarwaddy river. There is a popular saying in Myanmar “The Myanmar originated in Tagaung”. That means that first Myanmar civilization originated in Tagaung region situated in the central Myanmar. Although Tagaung is said to be the oldest city in Myanmar, the excavation produces no evidences, but a few clay votive tablets datable to Pagan period. However, by radiocarbon analysis of the charcoal specimens from the excavated sites, the wooden gates can be determined to belong to 2nd to 3rd century, and the assembly hall, datable to the century A.D.
